Description
For the first time in Bahrain, Kitesurfers from across the region are coming to Amwaj Islands to participate in the first regional amateur Kitesurf competition: Red Bull Kite The Waj on the 6th of June 2014. Ruben Lenten, International Red Bull athlete and renowned free style Kitesurfer who’s made a name for himself with his megaloop signature move, will be overseeing and judging the event. Riders are expected to arrive on the 3rd of June, and spend a couple of days shredding with Ruben before the competition day on the 6th of June.
Competition format:
16 teams of two riders each will compete head to head until the top 2 reach the grand finale.
They will have to use body and mind to impress the judging panel in each of the rounds.
Round 1: Air
Riders will be judged on air time
Round 2: Grab
Riders will be judged on grab tricks
Round 3: Spin
Riders will be judged on rotations
Round 4: Win
In this free-ride round, riders will have to impress the judges with their best tricks
o 4 rounds, 8 heats each
o Each team will choose the best rider for the round he’s most suited for. Each rider will have to complete 2 rounds
o Each heat is 12 minutes long
o Riders will get points from 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest)
The 2 teams which accumulate the most points over all 4 rounds will proceed to the grand finale.
